Targeted blocks of therapy are an opportunity to build skills towards a specific goal. These blocks are typically held at our HQ in Piara Waters during school holidays.

Who are intensive therapy blocks for?

Anyone with targeted goals who would like to work with our team is welcome to apply. We often have clients engage in therapy blocks who:

  • Have a specific goal that they want to achieve in a short period of time.
  • Are too overwhelmed or burnt out to do therapy during the school term and so prefer intensive blocks on school holidays.
  • Live rural/remote and come to Perth for intensive blocks as there is not access to face to face therapy in their area
  • Want to have an intensive block with us due to our regulation focus which they can bring into their usual therapy provider sessions.
  • Looking for an EMDR or TRE intensive to process through a past traumatic event/memory.
  • If are on a waitlist for a service and looking for a burst of intervention whilst waiting for ongoing therapy.
  • Kids who need a high frequency of sessions in a short period of time to build a relationship and/or create safety in a short period of time so they are able to open up fully.
  • Parents who want an intensive block of sessions to support their understanding of how to support their child and/or move through their own attachment style to allow them to connect with their child.

What are intensive blocks of therapy?

  • A block of three to four appointments working with an Occupational Therapist towards a targeted goal within a two week period.
  • Caregivers complete a pre phone call with the therapist to set the goal and intention of the sessions
  • Therapists write a summary letter following the intensive block summarising the intervention and recommendations.

How can blocks of therapy support learning?

  • Working specifically towards one to two therapy goals over the block of sessions. Having a specific goal for these blocks helps in making these blocks more tailored and is an opportunity to focus in on learning, practicing and adapting specific skill sets.
  • Chance to work with a different therapist. Our team have all completed a variety of different trainings and have a range of skills. Working with a different therapist towards a specific goal can be a great chance to try a different intervention approach and to have a different perspective.
  • Opportunity for therapy without the load of being at school for the term. This can be especially beneficial for high school aged children with lots going on during the term!
  • If you live out of our catchment area or rurally, chance for intensive blocks of therapy to help set up for the coming school term.
  • For children who are on a waitlist, intensive blocks can be a chance to work with a therapist on a specific goal as an interim support while waiting for ongoing therapy.
  • If a child typically does school therapy sessions during the term, a chance for intensive learning for both the child and parent on home and community based goals.
