Clinical Psychology

Our Clinical Psychology sessions provide understanding and strategies to children and families. Our Clinical Psychologist has the first session with the parents alone to gain a thorough understanding of the difficulties the child is having. This service supports the work that our Occupational Therapists are implementing on an ongoing basis with families. A team approach allows for an opportunity to gain valuable insight into the some of the complex behaviours or challenges that our families face.

Our Clinical Psychology sessions are run at our Piara Waters clinic, 5C/11 Erade Drive, Piara Waters, Perth WA.

The cost for Clinical Psychology is $250 per session.

Medicare rebates are available for up to 10 sessions through your GP under a mental health care plan. Rebates are approximately $126.50, though please see the Medicare website for upto date information

BIOGRAPHY

Margaret is a fully registered Clinical Psychologist with varied experience. She has worked with children of all ages and started her career at Princess Margaret Hospital creating the first DNA database in Australia to try and further understand type 1 juvenile diabetes. She is passionate about helping children fulfil their potential and went on to work on a state wide program to increase mental health resilience across hundreds of schools for primary school aged children. Following this she decided to specialise in helping families who have children who have disabilities.

APPROACH

Margaret takes a “behaviour = communication” approach. She truly believes that all behaviour has a function and that it is purposeful. She takes her job to translate this behaviour into meaningful communication seriously and strives to ensure that the children she works with have a better way of communicating their needs without hurting themselves or others around them. She is guided by positive behaviour principles which looks at enhancing the child’s environment and providing appropriate supports.
