Thanks for joining Sense Rugby! This welcome pack includes a heap of useful information to help you get ready.
When you arrive, the children are welcome to play with the equipment
and the other group members whilst the therapists and coaches are
setting up. Parents are asked to please supervise their players until the
session has started.
At the start of the session the team comes together and will go
through the schedule of what is going to happen in the training session.
We aim to keep the order and types of activities consistent to build
predictability across the sessions. Therapists/coaches will build the
complexity of the activities as the players build their skills.
In between activities the group comes back to the schedule for a quick
drinks break and to explain what the next activity is.

Your child may need your support to settle into the first few sessions so that they feel comfortable with the routine and adults in the group. We aim to have parents on the side line relaxing as soon as possible! If you have a child that has difficulty staying with the group and runs away, then we ask that you stay in the session to help bring them back. Therapists will aim to support all kids to stay in the group, though they are needing to divide their time across all the players.
Before, after or during sessions your therapist may come and ask you questions to clarify an approach or get more information. You are welcome to provide support to your child and therapist, or even jump in and help with the equipment. Some clubs have coffee, tea and bar facilities, which we support parents to use for mingling and participating in the club.

Costs
Private Clients
$40 per session
We collect all payments outside of therapy sessions to allow Therapists to focus on your child and family. Therefore we require all families to complete a direct debit form when they sign up. You will be charged for half the term upfront, then the remaining sessions at the end of the term. We do not charge for sessions that are cancelled due to weather or if the coach/therapist is not able to attend.
NDIS clients
$50 per session
Families are required to complete a Service Agreement with Calm and Connected, prior to services starting. A ‘Service Agreement’ outlines any camps, sessions and administration that will be included as part of the service delivery. This allows families and therapists to have a clear understanding of what will be provided. (The higher amount is due to the additional amount of paperwork required by NDIS)
Betterstart/HCWA
$50 per session
Upon sign up you will be prompted to upload a copy of your child’s Introductory Letter to allow us to claim these funds on your behalf.
Private Health Rebates
Depending on your provider and level of cover, you many be eligible for private health rebates for
Occupational Therapy Group Sessions. Please give your provider a call to see how much you will get back on each session. At the end of term you will be given a receipt for all the sessions that your child attended which you can use to claim back.

Individual services
- Occupational Therapy; we can support children at home, school or in the community to allow them to participate in day to day activities. Whether its building friendships, looking after themselves, completing school work or being apart of a sport team.
- Clinical Psychology; We can support children to develop strategies for managing their thoughts and emotions. We can work with parents, teachers or with the child to develop a plan to manage behaviours so children can function at home or school. The initial appointment is with the caregivers only to allow the chance to talk about all the issues occurring without the child listening.
- Therapy Assistants; sessions with one of our therapy assistants can be a great way to compliment the strategies learnt in a therapy session. These sessions can occur in the clinic, at home or in the community to provide additional learning opportunities for your child.
- Functional Assessments; Many children are requiring Functional Assessments in order to access therapy funding through the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). If this is a requirement for your plan, please contact us to book in a time with one of our team members. We are able to complete functional assessments for children/young adults aged 7-19 years.
Group programs
- Sense Rugby; this is an occupational therapist based rugby program for kids that want to feel apart of a team and receive therapy in a fun environment. Children join a team with a rugby coach, therapist and helpers to learn rugby skills and meet therapeutic goals.
- Lego Therapy Group; This group is to help kids develop social, communication, emotional and problem solving skills using the motivating medium of LEGO! Strategies are embedded into the that children can maintain their attention and focus on the lego. There are 2 age group programs, 4-6 and 7 and upwards.
- Hanging Out Days; Our one day 8-16 year olds is a full day opportunity for children to learn and practice the social and emotional skills. Days include going to the zoo, sci tech and more! These social skills days is a chance to practice in the moment with therapist support.
Therapy Intensive Camps
- Camp Confidence; this camp is for 8-11 years and allows children a fun and supportive environment to enjoy the camp experience whilst meeting their therapeutic goals. It is held in the September/October school holidays.
- Girls Camps; our ‘girls only’ therapy intensives are available for 11-13 year olds in January and August. We get to talk and do girls stuff, with the focus on building friendships and emotional resilience.
- Young Ladies Getaway; Our ‘young ladies only’ therapy intensive for girls aged 14-17 years in November is filled with activities and conversations to help girls build friendships and navigate social emotional challenges.
- Boys Camp; our camping adventures for boys 11-13 years are a great opportunity to develop social, motor and emotional skills whilst having fun in a supportive environment. Held in the April school holidays
- Our Support Camps are a chance for children to have a break with their peers. Our disability support workers create a safe space for kids to relax and be themselves. Camp is all about social and community participation.
- Online workshop series
We have put together online workshop series that cover the top topics that we most frequently provide information on to our families. These series are designed for the super busy parent! Each day you get an email with a video that is 2-3 minutes long. The topics are broken down into these small chunks to help you digest the information.
- Face to Face workshops
In each of our face to face workshops we explore; why a child is having difficulty with that topic, practical strategies and ideas that can be used by parents and teachers. The aim is to provide an understanding of each topic so that the adults supporting the child can begin problem solving themselves and also be better equipped to implement strategies provided by therapists.
- ADHD Expo and Guest Speakers Event
This a full day of education on supporting a child with ADHD. There are guest speakers from health professionals who have experience working with children with ADHD to provide information and practical strategies. During the breaks there are stall holders of support organisations to provide further opportunities to gain support and information.
Some goals families can have for their kids include:
– To have FUN!
– Learn how to manage their emotions
– Develop their confidence & self-esteem
– Make friends
– Learn how to follow instructions, wait their turn and be part of a group
– Improve their ability to self-regulate
– Learn a new skill”
