Time: 8.15am Registrations / 8.30am start – 4.30pm finish

IMPROVED RELATIONSHIPS – UNPACKING THE BEHAVIOUR SUPPORT PROCESS

Day One – Monday

Title: Understanding the Behaviour Support Funding

Objectives:

  • To develop understanding on the key principles underpinning supporting one’s need (or what we see ‘behaviours’)
  • To develop understanding of the science behind what happens when one’s need is not met and it’s contributing factors
  • To develop understanding of roles and responsibilities towards the person we support
  • To build a flexible hypothesis towards the reason behind one’s behaviours
  • To identify ways to gather information and to measure outcomes of improved relationships
  • To develop understanding of regulated restrictive practices and the implications towards the person, families, communities and implementing providers
  • To develop understanding of the role of the Behaviour Support Practitioners and the responsibilities of the implementing providers to meet NDIS Quality and Safeguarding requirements

 

Day Two – Tuesday (must also complete day one)

Title: Practical application when working with children/adults

Objectives:

  • To build skills in dynamic risk assessment to ensure safety of the person, self and others
  • To build skills in monitoring our bodily reactions and how we response towards the behaviour of concerns
  • To develop skills in identifying proactive strategies to best meet the needs of the person
  • To develop understanding of how restrictive practice affects the person
  • To obtain practical skills to regain personal safety while ensuring the safety of the person and others in high stress and risky situations
  • To obtain strategies to build skills in supporting restoration and recovery post incident/crisis
